Chemical peels

before you book a chemical peel you should know that they are not a quick fix to all your skin care concerns (despite what your fav skinfluencers might lead you to believe).

chemical peels are deep exfoliates to help you reach your skin goals more quickly and treat concerns that may be a little more complex such as deep hyperpigmentation, melasma and cystic acne.

if you have a clear understanding of what chemical exfoliation is (exfoliating products that use enzymes, acids, etc.) then you should understand that chemical peels are more intense versions of them. for example, if you as a consumer have access to purchase a 10% lactic acid product to treat your hyperpigmentation concerns, your esthetician has access to a 40%+ lactic acid chemical peel to treat those very same concerns more efficiently and intensely.

the issue we often run into is that not all skin concerns are created equal. one client’s hyperpigmentation from popping a pimple is not as deep as another clients hyperpigmentation from cystic acne scars. in most cases, people who aren’t prepared for them are begging to get them.

so how do you know if your’e ready for a chemical peel? it is a matter of skin health. if you are someone with concerns like dryness, eczema, redness and rosacea peels are not for you. if you struggle with applying and reapplying your sunscreen, peels are also not for you. it is absolutely necessary to follow after care instructions following chemical peel services! if you are not the top to follow directions, peels are not for you.

before beginning a series of peels, you should be training your skin as if prepping for the skin care olympics. this means developing a routine to nourish, hydrate and protect your skin. this will ensure a healthy moisture barrier and get you the best results. at least 1-2 months of preparing is advised. it is also importANT to work with a licensed professional who has had the time to get to know your skin and its needs. this can be via previous facial appointments or consultation.

chemical peels should only be done in the fall and winter months due to the fact that you should not be sweating or exposed to extreme sunlight after your service. skin care professionals usually offer these services between the months of october and april depending on the weather. this gives you the entire season to work on your skin goals!
